Thank you so much for your support of the Ohio League of Conservation Voters. Your contributions provide for voter education and help our elected leaders understand conservation issues. We share a vision of a clean, green, healthy Ohio. We see an Ohio producing abundant, affordable, renewable energy and prospering in the effort. As members of the League, we work to ensure an Ohio where we can swim, wade, boat and fish in scenic healthy streams, pristine lakes and productive wetlands. We dream of an Ohio where all enjoy fresh air and a forested and economically strong agrarian countryside; an Ohio where good jobs abound and our future looks bright. Toward this end, the League supports key legislation and legislators.
Last year, 2008, was a year of progress for Ohio. The Great Lakes Compact became law; the end product of a decade of effort. Lake water plays a crucial role in our region’s economy and in our daily lives, whether it’s the water we drink, the water that supports manufacturing and power plants, or the special times and places we enjoy with our families on the Great Lakes. Pollution, invasive species, habitat destruction, and record low lake levels are severely threatening this fragile system. The passage of the Great Lakes Compact provides one more step toward protecting this marvelous resource for future generations.
The Ohio Legislature also passed SB221, our Alternative Energy law which is among the strongest in the nation. Ohio now has an opportunity for prosperity, becoming a major center in the production of clean, green, affordable and abundant energy.
We’d like to extend a big thanks to voters and legislators all across Ohio who overwhelmingly supported Issue 2 this past November, renewing the Clean Ohio Fund for future funding.
Ohio is ready to launch into a period characterized by prosperity, natural beauty and a healthy environment. As League members, each of us can use the scorecard to talk with our Senators and Representatives. They are good men and women and they need our support, guidance, and prayers.
Sincerely,
Jim McGregor
Executive Director
